  1. Drink more, meditate less. Gaze into the depths of a fresh Belgian Tripel and watch the beer itself embodying the Satipatthana Sutta . . .

For readers wanting a decent introduction to Vipassana, Marshal Glickman’s “Beyond the Breath: Extraordinary Mindfulness Through Whole-Body Vipassana Meditation” is a good read.

  2. Hello Emlyn

Came across this article during one of my martial arts-guided random walks around the Internet:
    http://www.montrealsystema.com/uploads/Russian_Systema_JAMA_Article.pdf

It’s quite long and covers a wide range of subtopics, but it answers quite a few interesting fundamental questions from a neurological point of view fairly (I think) rigourously. Thought you might be interested.

I’m the Internet equivalent of a country bumpkin so I don’t know how to get it to you other than to post it as a comment.

    Regards,
    Jiang

  3. That is a good overview of Systema’s training approach, Jiang. Kevin Secours has written a number of excellent articles providing insight into Systema.

Breathing is very important to Systema practice. There is some discussion that analogizes Systema breathwork with Hesychastic meditative practices cultivated in Russian Orthodox monasteries. Emlyn is in touch with one cat who is particularly knowledgeable about any such connection.

  4. Hey, Em, welcome back to Sg.

I was wondering if you would like to meet the friend I practise Taiji with every Saturday. He’s high level and I’ve learnt a great deal in the last half-year.

Drop me an email either way, hm?
